Search for kaju prices and you will find 1kg quoted anywhere from ₹600 to ₹2,500, sometimes on the same page. None of those numbers is wrong; they are prices for different things wearing the same name. As of mid-2026, good whole cashews online sit roughly between ₹900 and ₹2,200 per kg depending on grade, from the everyday W320 up to the jumbo W180. Here is how to read any cashew price and know exactly what you are paying for.
Grade-wise price guide (whole kernels, online, mid-2026)
| Grade | Size | Typical online range per kg | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| W320 | Medium whole | ₹900 to ₹1,400 | Kitchens and everyday snacking, the value pick |
| W240 | Large whole | ₹1,100 to ₹1,700 | Snacking whole, trail mixes |
| W180 | Jumbo whole | ₹1,400 to ₹2,200 | Gifting, guests, the premium experience |
Ranges move with each harvest and season; our live prices are always on the category pages linked above.
The six things a cashew price is made of
1. Grade. The W number is kernel count per pound: W180 has about 180 kernels, W320 about 320, so W180 kernels are far bigger. Only a small share of any harvest grows large enough to grade W180, and rarity prices the ladder. The full system is in our cashew grades guide.
2. Whole versus broken. A whole-kernel grade always costs more than splits and pieces of the same origin. If a “cashew 1kg” price looks unbelievable, the pack is usually pieces, or whole kernels quietly mixed with them.
3. Freshness and crop year. Kernels from the current crop, packed promptly, cost more to sell than stock that sat in sacks through a humid season. The stale discount is real and it is not a bargain.
4. Processing quality. Hand-cracked, properly peeled, carefully sorted kernels carry labour cost. Machine-heavy processing is cheaper and breaks more kernels, which then get mixed back in.
5. Packaging. Vacuum-sealed airtight containers cost more than a pouch with a rubber band. They are also why the cashews still taste right in month four; see how storage decides taste.
6. Where you buy. Marketplaces add commissions of roughly 15 to 30 percent, which either inflates the price or squeezes quality. Selling direct is why our site price runs below our own Amazon listing for the identical pack.
Why very cheap cashews are cheap
A ₹600 “whole cashew” kilo is telling you its story if you listen: mostly broken grades, older crop, loose-sack storage, or all three. Cashews are a commodity with a real cost floor; below it, something was compromised. The reverse also holds: above roughly ₹2,400 retail for W180, you are usually paying for a brand’s tin, not a better kernel.
The honest answer to “which should I buy?”
Cooking and sweets: W320, and pay for freshness, not size. Everyday snacking: W240 if you want visibly large kernels at a sensible rate. And if the cashews are the point, a gift, a festive bowl, the best you can serve, that is W180 territory: the price premium is the cost of the top of the harvest, and one 500g pack will explain it better than any article.
Frequently asked questions
Why is kaju so expensive compared to other nuts?
Yield and labour. Each cashew apple produces one nut, the shell contains a caustic oil that makes extraction genuinely hard work, and every kernel must be cracked, peeled, and sorted. A kilogram of finished kernels represents hours of handling.
What is the price of 1kg W180 cashew?
Typically ₹1,400 to ₹2,200 online as of mid-2026, moving with the harvest. Current Cube Root pricing is on the W180 page.
Is it cheaper to buy cashews online or in a local shop?
Online direct-from-processor is usually the best rate for a given grade, because shop rent and marketplace commissions are out of the chain. Loose shop cashews can look cheaper per kg but are often lower grades with no packing date.
What about kaju katli prices?
A different product with its own math: sugar, ghee, and labour on top of cashews. We cover it separately in our kaju katli cost guide.
Do cashew prices go up before Diwali?
Reliably, yes: festive demand meets fixed supply. Stocking up in September beats shopping in the last week of October.
